Description:
A classic British dish, Toad in the Hole features succulent sausages nestled in a hearty Yorkshire pudding batter, baked until puffed and golden. It's a comforting, simple dish perfect for chilly evenings.
Ingredients:
Servings :
8
thick pork sausages
2
tbsp
vegetable oil
140
g
plain flour
2
large eggs
175
ml
milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Cooking Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Heat your oven to 220°C (200°C for fan-assisted ovens) or Gas Mark 7.
Prepare the Sausages:
Place the sausages in a 20cm x 30cm roasting tin. Drizzle with oil and bake for 15 minutes until browned.
Make the Batter:
While the sausages are in the oven, sift the flour into a bowl, make a well in the middle, add the eggs, and gradually incorporate the milk, ensuring a lump-free batter. Season with salt and pepper.
Add Batter to Sausages:
Remove the sausages from the oven, pour the batter over them, and return to the oven.
Bake:
Bake for 25-30 minutes until the batter is puffed up and golden.
To Serve:
Serve hot with onion gravy and a side of mashed potatoes or seasonal vegetables.
Notes:
For a twist, try different types of sausages like Cumberland or Lincolnshire.
Don't open the oven door while baking, as the Yorkshire pudding needs a consistent temperature to rise properly.
